History and current status

History

Following an initiative taken at the 18th Congress of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) in Stresa, Italy, the European Veterinary Parasitology College (EVPC) was established in 2003 to advance Veterinary Parasitology and promote high standards within this specialty in Europe. It represents an organized effort to establish criteria for training and experience to qualify as a specialist in Veterinary Parasitology. The EVPC encourages veterinarians entering Veterinary Parasitology to acquire training and competence based on approved standards. The inaugural meeting of the EVPC was held at the Veterinary School of Maisons Alfort (France) on the 27th September 2003. Annual meetings, comprising a General Business Meeting and a Scientific Symposium in the form of an advanced continuing professional education workshop, have since been held in a number of European countries.

Current status

The EVPC has been awarded definitive EBVS recognition during the 2013 EBVS Annual General Meeting in Brussels. The College is incorporated under the laws of France as a non-profit organization which does not pursue commercial interests.
