An intensive residency course on arthropod vectors and transmitted pathogens in the heart of the Mediterranean area:
The ParSCo traditionally takes place in Basilicata (known since Roman times as Lucania), in the heart of the Mediterranean, in southern Italy. Here, a considerable diversity of parasite species, inhabiting different micro-environments, is found among Roman ruins and old, original villages. This region has received much attention from researchers, not only for its outstanding species richness, but also because it represents a potential model for other Mediterranean countries.
It is a pleasure for us to share with you the 'parasitic experiences' that we have had over the past few decades in such a beautiful and fascinating place. Good science, good food, in a friendly atmosphere for an unforgettable parasitology summer experience.

Inside the VIP-Zurich: From residents to residents
Our current EVPC residents who attended the V.I.P. course in Zurich, from 23 to 29 November 2016, reflect on their experience. The Entomology Summer Course is a continuing education international course in Medical and Veterinary Entomology organised each year (usually in July) at the National Veterinary School of Toulouse, France.
The course highlights topics such as arthropod-borne diseases, resistance in arthropod populations, control tools, principles of laboratory rearings, and morphological identification of arthropods of medical and veterinary importance.
The week is divided into lectures, given usually during mornings, and laboratory and field works taking place during afternoons.
The course is opened to approximately 18 participants and targets: EVPC and ACVM residents, postgraduate (MSc, PhD) students, Post-doc, research fellows, entomologists, laboratory staff. A scholarship, the Young Scientist Award, dedicated to a PhD student coming from the Global South is available (https://entomologysummercourse.com/young-scientist-award/).
